Reflection on the Impact of Recent Events and Holy Week in the Dominican Republic
The recent events in the Jet Set scene in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, remind us of an essential lesson: no matter our social class or the amount of money we have in the bank, we are fragile human beings. Moreover, without God's guidance, our existence lacks meaning and purpose. It is painful to realize these truths only through difficult situations.
The cancellation and postponement of concerts and events, right in the middle of Holy Week, coincide with a moment of sorrow and reflection. As Dominicans, known as a blessed and divinely privileged nation, this is an opportunity to rethink the true meaning of these dates. We cannot allow Holy Week to become a period marked by debauchery, characterized by excesses such as uncontrolled alcohol consumption, excessive noise, drugs, and irresponsible relationships.
It is crucial to prioritize life and family over individual interests tied to parties and economic gains. While entrepreneurs and businesses play an important role, we must explore ways to generate happiness and economic prosperity while respecting the core values of our society.
Thus, I propose that we experience this Holy Week differently. With empathy, respect for the pain of others, and a sincere acknowledgment of God's sacrifice for us, we can transform this celebration into one of unity, reflection, and spirituality. In this way, we can have the best Holy Week of our lives, grounded in values that elevate us as individuals and as a community.
